In the Wobrécken district of Esch-sur-Alzette, between Boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte and Boulevard Winston-Churchill, the Generatiounscampus Wobrécken opened in May 2024: a campus with a primary school for around 300 to 360 pupils, a maison relais (after-school care), a daycare center for 40 toddlers, a sports hall, and a care center with 130 rooms for the eldercare organization Elysis. The building is constructed in timber and designed to passive house standards.
To make way for construction, between 150 and 200 trees already on the site had to be removed. At the time, the municipality of Esch-sur-Alzette announced that the trees would be compensated with new planting along Boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, as part of the redevelopment of the site.
Van den Berk Boomkwekerijen supplied 53 trees in three species for this replanting. Amelanchier arborea 'Robin Hill' (serviceberry), 11 trees in 20-25 standard size: a small tree with white-pink spring blossom and orange-red fall color. Acer campestre 'Elsrijk' (hedge maple), 7 trees in 20-25 and 24 trees in 35-40 standard size: a compact, narrow-crowned tree that tolerates paving and urban conditions well. Gleditsia triacanthos 'Sunburst' (honey locust), 11 trees in 35-40 standard size: a thornless cultivar with a light, open crown and golden-yellow spring foliage. In addition to Van den Berk, the tree nursery Ebben supplied part of the smaller shrubs and sizes for the project.
