The Romanian city of Turda has firmly established itself as a leader in sustainable urban development, with an emphasis on biodiversity, ecological materials, and energy efficiency.

A clear example is its award-winning sustainable mobility plan, which introduced electric public transport and expanded cycling infrastructure. As part of its green strategy, Turda planted a substantial number of Acer campestre 'Elsrijk' and Betula pendula 'Zwitsers Glorie' in the city center in 2023–2024, with a trunk girth of 25–30 cm. This carefully planned greening program not only enhances the public realm, but also contributes to better air quality, greater biodiversity, and increased resilience to climate change. In this way, Turda underscores its commitment to a healthy, sustainable urban future.
