Van den Berk Nurseries has been growing organic trees since 2016 in accordance with the strict requirements of Skal Biocontrole. Our organic trees are fully certified and are supplied at regular market prices.
By years of experience with sustainable cultivation methods, we can supply organic quality at the same price as regular trees. This makes organic accessible to municipalities and organisations with sustainability objectives, without budgetary consequences.
In 2020, we supplied the first organic trees from our trial plot. Since then, new plots have been added and the assortment is growing annually. Depending on demand, we will further expand production.
Our organic trees are healthy and of excellent quality. They do not differ in growth or health compared to regular trees grown elsewhere on the nursery.
This result stems from knowledge we built up since 2009. In that period, we have significantly reduced the use of chemical crop protection products in our regular cultivation. The expertise with natural remedies and preventive cultivation methods fits seamlessly with organic tree cultivation.
The designation 'organic' is legally protected. A tree may only be called organic if it is certified according to the applicable Dutch and European regulations. The trajectory to organic cultivation starts with a conversion period for the soil. This excludes the possibility of residues of previously used crop protection products being found in the trees. After approval of the plot, organic cultivation can begin. Skal Biocontrole supervises the organic chain in the Netherlands. They inspect plots and products and are responsible for the certification of organic trees. More information about organic certification: www.skal.nl
