Medium-size to large tree with a pyramidal crown, 10 to 12 m. When young, the tree has quite steep branches keeping it narrow for a long time. The leaves are heart-shaped, 8 to 15 cm. They are green on top with soft, grey-white hair on the underside. The leaf turns brownish red in autumn, sometimes remaining on the tree until early winter. The flowers are in pendent corymbs and open in June and early July. They are cream-coloured, very fragrant and attract many bees. French selection (Guillot-Bourne, Jarcieu), less prone to red spider mite. For parks, avenues, wide streets and squares.
