Quercus robur 'Alnarp Weeping' Quercus robur 'Alnarp Weeping'

Graceful, broad weeping tree that closely resembles ‘Pendula’ but grows better. The tree eventually grows to 10 to 15 m tall and over 10 m wide. The main branches spread slightly whereas the young twigs droop markedly. The branches may grow vigorously so that they touch the ground. On young trees the branches sometimes grow 2 m per season. The reddish brown twigs bear obovate leaves with round lobes. The leaf is 5 to 12 cm long and 3 to 6 cm wide. The acorns are ovoid to oval and no more than a third is enclosed by their cupule. The cupule is covered with small triangular contiguous scales. The broad weeping crown makes this solitary park tree suitable as an arbour.
