Pterocarya rhoifolia KYOTO CONVENTION ('Bokravention') Pterocarya rhoifolia KYOTO CONVENTION ('Bokravention')

Unlike the round crowns of other species, P. rhoifolia naturally has a broad pyramidal crown shape. ‘Kyoto Convention’ has a narrower crown than the species and attains a height of approx. 15 m. The crown is dense and has a great mass of leaves so it captures a lot of CO2. The older bark is only slightly grooved and P. rhoifolia has bud scales, which again is unlike other species. They are light grey and already drop off in late winter. The pinnate leaves are fresh green and consist of many leaf segments. The male and female flowers appear in pendent green catkins. They are followed by long racemes of small winged nutlets that start off green, turning brown later. Forms very few or no root suckers. Requires fertile, moist soil. Good tree for use in avenues, streets and industrial areas.
