Platanus ×hispanica 'Bloodgood' Platanus ×hispanica 'Bloodgood'

Platanaceae

Platanus ×hispanica 'Bloodgood' Platanus ×hispanica 'Bloodgood'

An American cultivar very resistant to plane canker. It is a fast-growing tree with a long straight trunk and a rounded crown. Height 20 - 25 m. A characteristic feature is the bark that flakes off. The underground is olive green and the flakes that fall off are grey-green, dark green or brown. The broad leaf has 3 - 5 sharply serrated lobes and turns colour to brownish yellow in the autumn. Fallen leaves do not rot easily and remain for a long time on the ground around the tree. Plane trees are very resistant to hard surfaces but surface roots can push the surrounding paving upwards. Takes pruning very well, even in old wood. Saplings require a tree stake for support. Winter Winter hardiness zone: 6a
