'Sargent's Elegant' is originally a bushy ornamental apple, which is often grafted onto a tall stem to form a small tree. Grafted at a height of 2.25 m, the tree will eventually grow about 4-5 m tall. The crown is round and densely branched and the branches have sturdy branch spines. The leaves are ovate and on the long shoots they often have two lateral lobes. In autumn, the leaves turn an attractive yellow-orange. From the third week of April until mid-May, the creamy white flowers open. The petals overlap, giving the approximately 2.5 cm large flowers a nice "full" appearance. The numerous small (6-10 mm) ornamental apples ripen around the end of August and remain on the tree until October. They are shiny purple-red.
'Sargent's Elegant' was selected as a seedling of M. toringo var. sargentii at the Boskoop Nursery Experiment Station and marketed by NAKB in 1996. Hardiness zone 5a.
