'Star apple' is a small to medium-sized tree with moderate growth to 6-8 m in height. The crown is semi-open and initially broadly pyramidal but later widens to almost round. Light pink flowers open around mid-April-early May. The flower buds are darker pink. The apples can be picked from mid-October until November. The apples of 'Star Apple' are medium-sized and regularly clearly flattened round in shape. The colour is a beautiful glossy red with numerous small star-shaped dots. The juicy flesh is firm and crisp and creamy white to slightly pinkish white. Characteristic of 'Star Apple' are the light red stripes in the flesh around the core. The flesh has a pleasant, distinctive raspberry-like odour. The flavour is slightly acidic. The 'Star apple' is an excellent storage apple that is excellent for cooking. It is popular with restaurants because its flesh turns red when cooked.
'Star apple' is an old variety found in the South Limburg border region with Belgium around 1830. Hardiness zone 6.
