Medium-size to large tree with a regular, pyramidal crown. Young twigs are bright green, mature bark is green-brown and smooth. The glossy dark green leaves are fairly thick and feel very leathery. The margins are only slightly undulate, with regular spikes. The spikes are fairly short and feel slightly sharp. The flowers are small, fairly inconspicuous and female. They are followed by orange-red, fleshy drupes (commonly called berries). Originated from a cross between I. aquifolium and I. latifolia. Prefers a humic, moist but well-drained soil and tolerates either acidic or calcareous soil. Can tolerate hot, dry conditions. Also suitable for use in wide avenues.
