'Pollmix' is a substantial shrub to small tree with a somewhat irregularly shaped, vase-shaped to broadly oval crown. In fact, these are three different clones; 'Pollmix 1', 'Pollmix 3' and 'Pollmix 4'. All three are male plants, which should provide pollination for the female, fruit-bearing cultivars. 'Pollmix 1' flowers first, followed by 'Pollmix 3'. 'Pollmix 4' flowers last in spring. For best pollination, it is best to plant two different of the three clones near female plants.
As the male 'Pollmix' cannot produce fruit, its ornamental value is limited to its grey-green leaves. Of course, its ecological value as a plant for erosion control and application in coastal areas is still very high. Hardiness zone 4.
