Cornus florida 'Cherokee Brave' Cornus florida 'Cherokee Brave'

Slow growing cultivar with rather irregular, round crown, that grows from a shrub into a small, multi-stemmed tree. The branches may tend to droop as the tree ages, making the crown as wide as it is high. The young leaf is reddish, turning dark green in summer. Autumn colouring is scarlet to violet. Each flower head is surrounded by four bracts: these are pinkish red with a conspicuously lighter base. The plant is shallow rooting with a fibrous root system and requires humic soil, which is not too dry. Among C. florida species, this is one of the least susceptible cultivars to mildew.
