Betulaceae

Betula albosinensis 'Fascination' Betula albosinensis 'Fascination'

A nice, small-leaved Dutch selection from the species. Due to its slow growth rate it takes many years before a height of 10 m is attained. The spread of the tree is circa 6 m then. The spreading pyramidal crown has numerous thin, flexible, weeping branches with a red-brown colour. The bark has a beautiful dark-red colour and already peels at an early stage. The dark-green leaf is bare on top, underneath it is glandular haired. It is oblong-ovate and acuminate at the tip. The leaf is narrower and more oblong than of the species. The margin is double serrated. 'Fascination' sprouts early in spring and in autumn it turns golden yellow. The green-yellow flowers appear in pendulous catkins in April. The tree is shallow-rooting with a dense root system and numerous fibrous rootlets.
