Rosaceae

Amelanchier 'Autumn Briliance' Amelanchier 'Autumn Briliance'

Broadly rising large shrub to small tree. The leaves have a somewhat purple hue on emerging and are slightly hairy on the underside, rapidly becoming hairless afterwards. The fresh green summer leaf turns yellow to deep red in autumn. This can vary depending on location and (micro)climate. The relatively large flowers are grouped in large, rather erect racemes. They are pure white and open in April. The flowers can be followed by purplish black fruit. The edible fruits are sweet and juicy. The plant originated as a spontaneous seedling. Amelanchier has few soil requirements but grows best in calcareous soil.
