Medium-sized tree, evenly branching, pyramidal to egg-shaped crown and well-growing top. Dense, closed crown. Height 15 to 18 m, spread circa 12 m. Young twigs are red-brown and have lenticells. The leaf stalk is also red. The circa 12 cm large leaf is shiny and dark green, slightly thicker and larger than of the species. The underside is blue-green. Red flowers emerge before the leaves unfurl. Autumn colouring is intensive orange to dark red. Leaf remains long on tree. The tree grows a sturdy main root with fibrous rootlets. In limy and dry soil the growth stunts and there will be no autumn colouring. Poor tolerance to (sea) wind. Sensitive to salt. Winter hardiness zone: 4
