Medium-size tree that has the habit and leaf colour of the species. However, the leaves are very crinkled so that the short lobes sometimes overlap. As a result, the leaf is spherical and often looks rather misshapen. ‘Cucullatum’ is a little known cultivar and is primarily a park tree. The oddly shaped leaves are its only decorative value, and might be deemed intriguing rather than attractive. Grows on any soil, but does not tolerate stagnating groundwater and peaty soils.
