Styphnolobium japonicum 'Gold Standard' Styphnolobium japonicum 'Golden Standard'

Small to medium-sized tree with a round crown up to about 10 m high and wide. The twigs and branches are a striking golden yellow, which is particularly ornamental in the winter months. The old bark is grey-brown and grooved, as in the species. The branches give off an unpleasant smell when broken. The leaf is compound and unevenly pinnate. It consists of 7 to 17 partial leaves. These are ovate to elliptical and 2 to 6 cm long. When unfurling the leaves are light yellow, later in summer they turn light greenish yellow. In a warm and sunny spring, the young leaves may get some sunburn. Flowering and fruits are like those of the species. The tree only flowers after 10 to 15 years. Preferably apply in semi-shade.
