Prunus domestica 'President' Prunus domestica 'President'

'President' is a fairly strong-growing tree with a bushy, slightly jagged, round, semi-open crown of 4-6 m in height. The stem branches initially grow quite steeply upwards. The tree flowers in the second half of April with lightly scented, white to whitish-pink blossoms. 'President' is a self-pollinating variety, so there is no need to plant a plum tree of another variety in the vicinity. The plums of 'President' are very large, flattened ovoid and reddish-blue to purplish-red in colour. The flesh is greenish-yellow, juicy, not very strong in flavour. 'President' is one of the last ripening plums, they are not ready for picking until around late September-early October, although they colour earlier. They are suitable for immediate consumption, but can be stored for a relatively long time.
'President' originated in the early 20th century and was marketed by Rivers Nurseries in Sawbridgeworth. Hardiness zone 6.
