Magnolia 'Betty' is a large shrub that under the right conditions grows into a small tree with a somewhat irregular, rounded crown. The tree then grows 4 to 6 m tall and wide. The flowers open in April and early May. They are star-shaped and up to about 20 cm in diameter. The petals are light lilac-pink and turn darker purplish-pink towards the centre of the flower. Usually the petals are slightly twisted in the longitudinal axis. Each flower has 12 to 19 petals.
