Liquidambar styraciflua 'Slender Silhouette' Liquidambar styraciflua 'Slender Silhouette'

Medium-size to large tree with a columnar crown, remaining slender even when mature. At an estimated age of 30 years, the original tree was only about 3 m wide. The boughs grow straight up and the thinner twigs also grow vertically. They have no corky fissures. The inconspicuous flowers are followed by spiky capsules that persist in the winter. In the 1980’s, Don Shadow found a mature tree growing wild at the side of a small lake in a nature reserve. The original tree was cut down around 2007, according to Shadow “by a man who wanted somewhere to put his fishing basket.” Suitable for use in parks, avenues and streets. Prefers fertile, moist soil: cannot tolerate persisting drought.
