Small tree with densely branching, narrow pyramidal crown, to about 4 - 6 m tall. Young twigs are fairly thin. The conspicuously glossy, dark green leaves are narrow oval to elongated, 3 - 4 cm long and barely half as wide. The leaf margins have 6 - 8 thin, forward-pointing spikes, equally distributed on each side. The flowers are small and fairly inconspicuous. This male cultivar does not bear fruit. Prefers a humic, moist but well-drained soil and tolerates either acidic or calcareous soil. Also suitable for use as a narrow hedge.
