Medium-size tree with densely branched, broad pyramidal crown to about 8 - 12 m. Young twigs are bright green with cream stripes. The leaves are narrow ovate to elliptical, up to 7 cm long. They are glossy dark green with broad, cream coloured margins. Young leaves often coloured pinkish to light purple. The margins are slightly undulate, with 5 - 7 sharp prickles on each side. The flowers are fairly inconspicuous. This female cultivar can bear numerous bright red fruits. Prefers a humic, moist but well-drained soil and tolerates either acidic or calcareous soil. Also suitable for use as a wide hedge.
