Cryptomeria japonica 'Rasen' Cryptomeria japonica 'Rasen'

In several cultivars of C. japonica, the needles typically grow around the twigs. The best-known cultivar with this characteristic is Cryptomeria japonica 'Rasen'. Cryptomeria japonica 'Rasen' is a fast-growing, slender-rising tree with a fairly open branch structure. The tree grows about 12 m tall. Older trees often become bare underneath. The shiny dark green needles are tightly curved around the rather long twigs, giving them a spiral appearance. It makes 'Rasen' a popular tree, not only for use in gardens and parks, but also in floral design. This ancient Japanese cultivar was introduced to Europe in 1970. Hardiness zone: 6a
