PACIFIC SUNSET is a small to medium-sized tree with, especially at a young age, a vigorous, continuous heart branch. Grows rapidly as a young tree and initially has a pyramidal crown. At a later age, the tree becomes broader and the crown almost round. Keep this in mind when applying this beautiful tree. The shiny green leaves are 5- to 7-lobed and the lobes are regularly triangular with a narrow, pointed tip. This gives the leaves a characteristic star-shaped appearance. In autumn, it turns intense orange-red to deep red for several weeks. Externally, A. truncatum sits between A. palmatum and A. rubrum. The tree clearly grows faster and taller than A. palmatum, but does not grow as tall as A. rubrum. An important advantage of A. truncatum is that this species is virtually soil tolerant, with the exception of very acidic and very calcareous soils. A. truncatum also tolerates quite a lot of moisture, while the tree is also quite drought-resistant. An excellent climatic tree, therefore. Because of its broad crown shape, it is only suitable for parks and as avenue tree for wider profiles.
