Acer negundo 'Sensation' Acer negundo 'Sensation'

With an oval crown, 'Sensation' is clearly narrower than the species A. negundo and other cultivars of this species. Forms a compact crown with sturdy stem branches and eventually grows about 10 m high. The spring foliage is reddish bronze. In summer it is dark green, but always with a coppery tinge. Autumn colours are deep crimson to deep red and often persist for weeks. 'Sensation' is a male cultivar and so will not produce seeds and nuisance seedlings. It is a strong cultivar that tolerates a lot of drought and heat. Was selected by J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co, Boring, Oregon, USA, in the late 1980s and introduced in 1993. Hardiness zone: 4
