‘After the busy open house, the residents of the Herengracht withdrew their objections. It was agreed that 22 columnar sycamores with a circumference of 40/45 cm would be planted along the Herengracht. These trees are markedly bigger than the ones that had been planned originally. An example of the tree could be seen at the town hall on Wednesday. It was standing at its intended location near the sluice. Now that the objections have been withdrawn, the redevelopment of the Herengracht can proceed on schedule. On Monday, 31 March, work will start on the felling of the hornbeams on the Herengracht. Consequently the new trees can be planted just before the end of the planting season. The other work on the Herengracht, such as the paving and relaying of road will also be going ahead.
